Canine Influenze - Dog Flu

Canine influenza is an emerging threat to the respiratory health of dogs across the US, predominately in the South and on the East Coast. All breeds and ages are susceptible to infection. Because it's a fairly new virus, dogs have no natural immunity to it.

This virus is highly contagious and easily spread through direct contact (licking, nuzzling, etc.), the air (coughing or sneezing), and contaminated surfaces - even through petting!
  • Characterized by a persistent cough that may last several weeks, as well as runny nose, watery eyes, and a loss of appetite and/or energy.
  • Usually mild, but can progress to a more severe infection or pneumonia in 10% to 20% of cases, and is fatal in up to 8% of sick dogs
  • A concern for owners whose dogs: – Come from a shelter, rescue center, breeder, or pet store
It is highly suggested to have your pet vaccinated with the Canine Influenza Vaccine, H3N8

This vaccine is the first available to aid in the prevention of disease associated with canine influenza. It is proven to reduce the cough, severity, and spread of this infection. It has been proven safe by use of the USDA. This vaccination is administered in 2 doses, 2-4 weeks apart. One annual injection is needed to continue its protection.

Fleas and Ticks

  Remember!

   Flea Season is
 June - December!

Fleas
Few creatures can inflict more misery, ounce for ounce, than fleas. These tiny, almost-invisible pests can make life miserable and disrupt your household with a vicious cycle of biting and scratching. Fleas may also cause flea allergy dermatitis in some pets and may be carriers of dangerous diseases.

Ticks
Often too tiny to be seen, ticks attach to pets and feed on blood until they are engorged. They thrive in high humidity and moderate temperatures, but can be found all over the country. Ticks may carry and transmit diseases, including Lyme disease, that can causeserious health problems for pets and people.
